3 Steps to Choosing a Long Formal Gown that Suits your Body Shape

Our bodies come in all different shapes and sizes which means that you will need to find a long formal gown that not only suits your body shape, but makes people turn and say “DAMN SHE LOOKS GOOD”!

Some girls prefer short party dresses, but when your prom or formal is coming up you will eventually need to choose a floor length gown that shows off your best features and makes you feel like a million dollars.

1. Know Your Body Shape

The first step to choosing a long dress is to know your body shape. There are five categories of body shape, these include apple shape, pear shape, house glass shape, inverted triangle shape and ruler shape. Our influencers come in all different shapes and sizes. They have chosen their favourite gowns for their body shapes below:

Hellen has a ruler shape body but wear a dress that has a tapered waist to give the illusion she has a more of an hour glass shape.

Katerina has an hour glass figure and wears a simple figure hugging design to show it off!

Cassie has an inverted triangle figure and wears a low cut gown with feather detailing to draw attention to her beautiful neckline.

Mary has a pear shaped body and wear a sequin gown with a side leg split to draw attention to her gorgeous legs.

2. What About Your Self-Confidence?

If there is an area of your body that you don't like or makes you feel self-conscious, then use a gown style that covers those areas up or draws attention to the areas of your body that you do like. Maybe wear a low cut neckline or side leg split to show off your assets.

3. Fabrics Work in Your Favour

Fabric can work in your favour, and sometimes it won't. Satin like fabric can sometimes show all your little bumps and blemishes. Whereas sequins, crystals and beaded gowns will allow you to feel more confident and still give off that wow factor. So always consider what fabric works for you.
